Aspen Beverage Engages Intern Sponsorship with UTSA SBDC
(San Antonio, TX) September 15, 2010—Local coffee roaster and innovative beverage manufacturer, Aspen Beverage Group, is known for its environmental practices, community service, and philanthropy. When approached by Tom Hansis, Senior Advisor at the UTSA Small Business Development Center (SBDC) and Tyrone Moodley, an accounting student at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), to participate in a QuickBooks Intern Program, Aspen recognized the opportunity.
After an initial meeting, Moodley was offered a chance to work with Aspen Beverage to complete an internship for his accounting practicum.
Tom Hansis explained that Moodley would get real-life work experience in researching software that integrates with QuickBooks Manufacturing and Wholesale Edition and possibly new MRP software. Moodley has an accounting and IT background which is well suited for problem solving and understanding any programming or accounting issues his intern research reveals. Moodley will be tasked to work with two of Aspen’s staff to gain an understanding of the Company’s needs and current way of solving unique problems through spreadsheets. He will work to find or develop ways to improve on QuickBooks forwards and backwards information exchange allowing better utilization of available data.
Aspen transitioned to QuickBooks Manufacturing and Wholesale Edition in 2007; however, claims though a vast improvement, the program still does not “do” what they would like from an inventory management standpoint. Aspen’s expectation is that Moodley’s research during his internship will reveal insights that help Aspen to better utilize the current software and his developmental skills will enable Aspen to eliminate the many work a rounds and spreadsheets they now use.
